This month, GDRC Mosaic is being set to more than 2000 subscribers in 130 countries worldwide. -------------------------------------------------- THIS MONTH'S SPOTLIGHT: Education for Sustainable Development, from GDRC's Programme on Sustainable Development. In 2002, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 57/254 to designate the decade 2005-2015 as the 'United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development' (UN-DESD). GDRC has developed a special section on UN-DESD to keep web visitors updated on the initiative, and the various activities currently underway during the Decade. Much of the work of GDRC focuses on incorporating sustainability concerns within everyday decisions - how can lifestyle choices and consumption patterns be made more environmentally sound, and have less negative impacts? GDRC has been working on these and related issues. Hence the key to knowledge creation is understanding what the user already has (i.e. the ‘bird-in-the-hand’) as a first step, in order to be able to satisfy his/her information needs. This goes together in providing access to pertinent and timely/useful information (i.e. the ‘two-in-a- bush’).
