This Months Highlight: Sustainable Transportation
from the GDRC Programme on UEMRI
How can the focus shift from mobility to access?
Sustainable transportation concerns systems, policies, and
technologies. It aims for the efficient transit of goods and
serivces, and sustainable freight and delivery systems.
The design of vehicle-free city planning, along with
pedestrian and bicycle frendly design of neighbourhoods
is a critical aspect for grassroots activities, as are telework
and teleconferencing.
GDRC's section on this theme covers a range of issues,
and provides links to what organizations, institutions and
networks are doing.
As with all sections of GDRC, contributions,
comments and suggestions are always welcome from
users and subscribers! Please contact GDRC's

FOCUS ON GDRC: Cook books v/s Nutrition guides
This section focuses on information management
lessons learnt in coordinating GDRC's activities.
One of the reasons that make GDRC popular among its
users (based on feedback and queries received) is the
format of the information it provides that facilitate and
inspire local action. It does not provide prescriptive
solutions (i.e. cook-books that provide step-by-step
instructions to prepare a dish), but rather lays out a
contextualizing big picture framework, within which
different concepts and approaches can be tried (i.e.
nutrition guides that provide indicators to what needs
to be consumed).
