This month, GDRC Mosaic is being set to more than 1200 subscribers in 120 countries worldwide. -------------------------------------------------- THIS MONTH'S SPOTLIGHT: Instructional Design from GDRC's Programme on Information Design. Instructional Design is the process of analysis of learning needs and goals and the development of a delivery system to meet those needs. Instructional design is a formal proces that has its roots in behaviourism. "Educational" design is a term that is also sometimes used frequently and interchageably, and takes into account some of the diverse and new theories in instructional design. An information designer will be involved in the evaluation, synthesis, analysis, application, comprehension of information and knowledge. GDRC has been working on these and related issues . Resources on this topic are available at: http://www.gdrc.org/info-design/instruct/instruct.html As with all sections of GDRC, contributions, comments and suggestions are always welcome from users and subscribers! Please contact GDRC's Coordinator at - mosaic@gdrc.org -------------------------------------------------- FOCUS ON GDRC: LEARNING LESSONS Meta Information [Information on Information] Meta-information is information about information, i.e. who has produced it, when, what format is the information in, and so on. In the web language, meta-information is presented in the form of HTML tags that provide information on the document itself, such as author, descripotion, keywords, date created etc. This concept is something we can use in the wider world of information design too! Information overload is a reality that we face on a daily basis, requiuring us to reskill ourselves with new ideas and skills that will help us be more efficient and effective. And one skill that can be adopted from this very phenomenon is to develop a meta-information system for our daily lives so that we can access, process and use information efficiently! -------------------------------------------------- MONTHLY STATISTICS FOR GDRC'S WEBSITE Total hits encountered - 1,326,286 Total files downloaded - 1,030,499 Total pages viewed - 498,397 Total web visitors - 161,647 Total KBytes - 11,114,980 Pages per day - Avg. 16,077.
