A commercial bank wanted to start a microfinance programme that was focussed on the very poor in urban areas. It first observed the participatory process of community activities initiated by an NGO. It then organized activities for its own staff members that sensitized and created awareness on the unique needs of low-income groups. Finally, it started to assist and support the NGO in its community intervention, before providing loans directly to the community organization.
