A womens' group appointed a treasurer who always sat on her front yard doing her chores. Women returning daily shopping simply gave her all the change that they had with them, as a form of daily savings. The treasurer entered the amount in a ledger. While the amounts were small, on a sustained basis, it was enough for the group to hire-purchase sewing machines for their members.
