The NGO Cafe endorses the IYV-2001
The 52nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly approved by consensus on November 20,
1997 a proposal by the Government of Japan and 122 other Member States that the year 2001 be
proclaimed the International Year of Volunteers.
With its main objectives of increased recognition, facilitation, networking and promotion
of volunteering, the International Year of Volunteers 2001 (IYV) provides a unique opportunity to highlight the
achievements of the millions of volunteers worldwide and to encourage more people globally to engage in
volunteer activity.
