About the Gateway
The Global Development Research Center (GDRC)'s 15 programmes, within the five spheres of Environment, Urban, Community, Economy, and Information, clearly illustrate the interlinked nature of the causes and effects of the myriad challenges the world is facing today.

Looking at the challenges in an integrated manner, by identifying problems behind the problems, to create solutions for solutions, is critical. One such issue that frequently comes up, cutting across GDRC's programmes is that of sustainable tourism.

Therefore, the Sustainable Tourism Gateway was set up on 27 September 2008 - the World Tourism Day - in order to develop awareness and educate on issues related to sustainable tourism; to assist in policy and programme development; and to facilitate monitoring and evaluation.

It is an internet tool that provides easy and rapid access to information and networking on sustainable tourism and related topics.

Contributions to the Gateway are welcome!
