Wave+Tidal capacity The theoretical energy potential of ocean waves and tides is estimated to be twice the world's electricity consumption. However, due to technological and infrastructure challenges, only a few pilot projects are operational, with total installed capacity remaining under 1 GW. Leading countries in wave and tidal energy development include the United Kingdom, Canada, and South Korea.
