Research Programme on Non-Governmental Organizations

About the Programme

The GDRC Programme on Non-Governmental Organizations is designed as an "NGO Cafe", as a meeting place for NGOs around the world.

The objectives of the Café are to assist NGOs in enhancing and improving their programmes and activities; to effect a better understanding of NGOs in general; and to enable NGOs to network at local, regional and international levels.

In six distinct sections, the site defines the concept of NGOs and related organizations, provides tools and resources to implement effective programs, presents papers and documents of international interest, and gives news and internet links.

Keywords:

NGOs, NPOs, Non-governmental Organizations, development, low-income households, poverty, developing countries, non-profit, UN agencies, third sector

Currently, GDRC is focussing on issues related to starting an NGO. A number of aspects need to be taken into consideration when starting an NGO. The existing feature on "Starting an NGO" is being enhanced for this purpose.

It has produced a number of outputs including:

NGO Management Toolbox, Starting an NGO, fund-raising strategies, accountability, credibility, codes of conduct etc.
